Confirmation Candidates

Preparation for Confirmation should aim at leading the Christian toward a more intimate union with Christ and a more lively familiarity with the Holy Spirit - his actions, his gifts, and his biddings - in order to be more capable of assuming the apostolic responsibilities of Christian life. To this end catechesis for Confirmation should strive to awaken a sense of belonging to the Church of Jesus Christ, the universal Church as well as the parish community. The latter bears special responsibility for the preparation of confirmands.127 CCC 1309

Candidates are asked to earn 20 hours of service hoursthroughout the Confirmation process.  We ask that candidates earn 10 hours with the parish and 10 hours in the community.  There will be opportunities to earn hours during the Confirmation process:

• Working a parish Lenten fish fry
• Place tags on the Advent Giving Tree on the 3rd weekend in November
• Bishop Sullivan Coat Drive
• Serving the homeless at Uplift

• Sponsors should be local in order to more fully participate with their candidates.
• Sponsors must be a member of the Catholic Church and initiated in the sacraments of Baptism, Eucharist and Confirmation.
• A sponsor should be an active and participating member of their own faith community and not prohibited by Canon Law from participating in the sacramental life of the Church.
• Parents have a distinct role in a young person’s sacramental formation and therefore are NOT to serve as Confirmation sponsors for their own children.
• The sponsor will be a person willing to share and support the candidate in the struggle to live a Christian life and serve as a model of Christian discipleship and a mentor for the adolescent Catholic.
• As a symbol of the continuous relationship between the universal church and the young person throughout his or her formation “it is desirable that the Godparent at Baptism, if available, also be the sponsor at Confirmation”. In any case, a sponsor is to be invited to participate actively throughout the Confirmation formation process and after.
• A sponsor must be at least 18 years of age and of sufficient maturity to fulfill the role of a sponsor.
• Sponsor should attend the Sponsor Meeting with the candidate on Sunday, January 14-Check in at 11:45am, attend Mass @ 12Noon, followed by meeting until 3pm.
• A sponsor must be able to attend the Confirmation Rehearsal Sun. April 14, 7pm and ceremony on Mon. April 15, 2023 arriving by 6:15pm.
• Sponsor is asked to complete two service opportunities or parish events with candidate.

When someone is declared by the Church to be a saint, the Church is proclaiming that this
member of the faithful practiced heroic virtue during their life on earth, ‘the Church recognizes
the power of the Spirit of holiness within her and sustains the hope of believers by proposing the
saints to them as models and intercessors’ (CCC 828).

Choosing a Confirmation Name

• Registration is open to teens in grades 9-12 during the 2023-2024 academic year.
• Confirmation candidates will participate in small group experiences including catechetical instruction from Dynamic Catholic's Decision Point, service opportunities, large group gatherings prayer experiences, retreat and active participation in the life of our parish.
